The four major differences between analog pickups and digital pickups

[ Huaqiang Security Network News ] The development time of pickups is not very long, but domestic pickup manufacturers have the ability to introduce digital pickups, that is, through digital signal processing, and then output audio signals, but this is not the case, as a domestic digital pickup The advocate, Elite Audio Technologies, Inc. introduces several methods for simulating and digital pickups for everyone to identify real digital pickups.
pickup
1. The digital pickup is processed by a chip such as a digital signal processing chip. Since the chip itself has a reset, start, and algorithm operation time interval, resulting in a power-on, there will be a time interval of 1-2S to hear the audio output, so it can be The pickup is connected to the earphone first, then power on. If there is audio output in an instant, it is an analog pickup. If there is a time interval of 1-2S, it is a digital pickup.
2. All digital pickups first convert the analog audio signal into a digital signal through the digital signal processor's ADC for processing and then convert it into an analog signal, so there must be a bandwidth limitation, such as 8K when the sampling rate is set to 16K. The above signals are filtered by the anti-aliasing filter, so the signal above 8K is very small. Spectrum analysis with professional recording equipment and recording software shows whether the pickup is analog or has a pickup with a digital signal processor.
3. All digital pickups have software noise reduction function and can automatically recognize the difference between vocals and noise. The easiest way is to play a piece of white noise (such as air conditioning, wind and other continuous noise), recording through the pickup, if the digital pickup at the beginning of the noise noise will be relatively large, after 1 to 2 seconds after the noise It will gradually become smaller. The sound recorded by the analog pickup will remain the same.
4. Many pickups claim to have automatic gain control (AGC) function. In fact, AGC is divided into two types. One is analog automatic gain control as shown in the figure below; there is also full digital automatic gain control. The analog AGC works very simply: the output saturates when the input signal is greater than a certain amplitude, and the output is within a certain range by reducing the overall loop gain. The all-digital automatic gain control is much more complicated. The basic principle is to judge the signal-to-noise ratio of the effective signal and the noise. When the signal-to-noise ratio is small, the loop gain is appropriately increased to improve the recognition of the speech, and the signal-to-noise ratio is very high. When high, the gain is appropriately reduced so that the output does not exceed the limit of the dynamic range and is saturated. And with pop-up protection, which means that suddenly there is a large sound input, the DSP will automatically limit the output amplitude without saturation and will not output in the next few seconds. So another way to identify digital pickups and analog pickups is to create a larger sound near the microphone of the pickup, such as a clap. If it is analog, there will be an obvious input close window, and the digital pickup will not. Figure 1 below shows the basic working principle of the AGC that the analog pickups claim. You can clearly see that the output is saturated and limited when the sound suddenly increases.
