Application of online measuring system in CNC machine tools

In the four-axis trial machining center project signed by a limited company and our factory, the customer specially proposed to add an online measuring system to the high-speed horizontal machining center, aiming at measuring and ensuring the processing quality quickly, correcting the workpiece position, correcting or Set the workpiece coordinate system, etc.

Online measurement system

Let us introduce the online measurement system first. The measuring system is installed on the CNC machine tool to have part of the measurement function with the CMM. During the machining process and after the workpiece, the workpieces with strict requirements are tested. The measuring system will automatically complete the dimension inspection and correct the tool. To establish the coordinate system work, this is the online measurement system of CNC machine tools (also known as online probe system).

Under normal circumstances, the precision requirements for CNC CNC machined parts are relatively high or complex. After the processing is completed, firstly, we use a general measuring tool such as a caliper or a micrometer to confirm the rough measurement. After no problem, the processed workpiece is removed and sent to the coordinate measuring machine for final inspection. After the test is qualified, the next order processing can be carried out; if the test is unqualified, it can only be repaired by secondary processing on the CNC. This requires re-clamping, alignment and tool setting. It is impossible to complete the above actions without any problem! This is very easy to produce a series of errors caused by the clamping, alignment and tool setting, resulting in the processing of the place is not in place, the place where the processing is not cut off, the workpiece is completely scrapped, wasting a lot of time and energy. Installing the online measurement system eliminates the above.

When CNC machining tools are used for batch processing, the machining accuracy of the first part is generally required to be processed and measured several times. It is often removed and sent to the inspection room for inspection and correction. It is very cumbersome and time consuming. If it is installed on a CNC machine tool. The online measurement system can simplify the above process. After the parts are processed, it is not necessary to remove the parts, and the accuracy measurement can be realized directly on the machine. The software of the measurement system compares the measurement results with the dimensional requirements, and the size is qualified to stop. If it is unqualified, it will be repaired again and then stopped. The operator can also visually view the measurement results by recalling the variables.

According to the function classification, the measurement system can be divided into the workpiece detection probe and the tool detection probe (also called the tool holder); according to the working mode, it can be divided into two types: trigger type and conductive type; according to the signal transmission mode, it can be divided into cable connection type. Inductive, optical and radio. The choice of the specific transmission method depends on the application.

2. Commissioning and application of online measuring system on high speed horizontal machining center

The following describes the selection of the Marposs radio probe E86N and its commissioning process on the BW60HS/1-L high-speed horizontal machining center (Siemens 840D system).
