Wood door and window technology and construction process details
In the construction industry, woodworking is one of the most commonly used techniques, especially in interior decoration. From doors and wardrobes to cabinets and bookshelves, wooden elements are essential in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. But how much do you really know about the process of making and installing wooden doors and windows? Here, Jiuzheng Building Materials Network provides a comprehensive guide to the entire process, from preparation to installation.
**First, the scope of work**
This includes the installation of wooden doors, such as swing doors and sliding doors, as well as window installations. Each type requires specific steps to ensure proper fit, function, and durability.
**Second, the installation process**
1. **Swing Door Installation**:
Begin by determining the installation location, then mark the position on the wall. Place the door frame into position and temporarily fix it. Use a plumb line to check for vertical alignment, adjust the frame if needed, and then secure it firmly. Next, embed the frame into the wall, hang the door panel onto the frame, and cut the hinge grooves based on the door size. Ensure accuracy and smooth operation when fitting everything together.
2. **Hanging Sliding Wooden Door Installation**:
Start by marking the top of the fixed door frame, then install the side frame plates. Place the hanging piece onto the I-steel slide rail, secure the rail in place, and install the lower rail. Insert the door into the special hole at the top, align it with the lower rail, and fasten the hanging bolts. Check the alignment between the door edge and the side frame, make any necessary adjustments, and finally install the face panel.
3. **Bottom Sliding Window Installation**:
Determine the installation spot, fix the lower frame plate first, then the side and upper frame plates. Cut a wooden trough that matches the thickness of the steel bar and attach the steel channel to it. Glue the special wheel box into the reserved hole at the bottom of the window sash, install the sash onto the track, check the gap between the window and the frame, adjust as needed, and finish with the face panel.
**Third, the finishing process**
When working on wooden door and window coverings, start by drilling holes in the base wall and laying out wooden molds. The spacing between the molds should be less than 300 mm, and each row should be spaced no more than 150 mm apart. Then, cut the large core board according to the design dimensions and secure it to the wall and door opening using round nails. Make sure the nails are driven into the wooden mold. Once the base is stable, apply fire-retardant paint.
Choose high-quality plywood for the trim panels, ensuring it has an attractive pattern and a smooth surface. The wood species must meet the design specifications. When cutting the veneer, measure and mark the door opening and face dimensions, use a sharp knife to cut along the lines, and plane the 45-degree joints. Apply glue to the back and stick it to the base, then reinforce with capless straight nails using a nail gun.
The joints between the door and the wall should be straight and 45 degrees. After the veneer is installed, cover the corners with wooden corner strips, and treat the horizontal and vertical joints with 45-degree angles for a neat finish.
**Fourth, the wooden curtain box installation**
**1. Types of Curtain Boxes**
There are two main types: one where the room has a ceiling, and the curtain box is hidden within it and installed alongside the ceiling. The other type is used in rooms without a suspended ceiling, where the curtain box is mounted directly on the wall and integrated with the window frame.
**2. Key Construction Points**
The standard height of a curtain box is around 100 mm, with a single rod width of 120 mm and a double rod width of 150 mm or more. The length should extend beyond the window width by at least 300 mm, with each side extending 150 mm. It can be as long as the wall allows.
For a finished look, use large-core boards for the curtain box. If the finish is painted with clear oil, the same veneer material as the window frame should be used, and the outer side and bottom of the box should be covered with adhesive.
Through-type curtain boxes can be directly fixed to both sides of the wall and the top surface, while non-through types require metal brackets to ensure stability. Before installation, check that the lengths on both sides of the window opening are equal and allow for some flexibility during the process.
