GM soybeans and edible soybean oil actually do not contain genetically modified ingredients. There is no problem. As for genetically modified corn, its main function is to use as feed, and humans rarely or occasionally eat it, and its safety is not a big problem. The same is true of genetically modified papaya, which is not a staple food. Occasionally, the problem of consumption is not great.

Online circulated "genetically modified food list" does not fly

Zheng Fengtian believes that neither genetically modified foods should be demonized, nor should it be assumed that genetically modified foods are generally safe and reliable, allowing the proliferation of GM foods. Genetically modified foods are good or bad and should be treated differently. For people who do not eat directly, they can be gradually promoted; for occasional use, some varieties can be tested and promoted; for the staple food that the residents eat every day, it should be prudent now.

Can not be genetically modified on staple foods

Zheng Fengtian said: “At present, genetically modified foods are considered to be safe, and those who have studied or engaged in biotechnology industry should account for the vast majority. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the whole world of genetically modified foods, so they can be studied and tested. , but I really can't try it on the staple food."

Recently, many scientists and college students voluntarily eat genetically modified rice to prove the safety of genetically modified foods. Zheng Fengtian believes that those practices are not prudent and misleading.

He said: "Each once or twice is no problem, but it does not mean that eating for 20 years is no problem. It is suggested that these "organizers" can engage in a "special zone" and allow them to insist on eating GM rice for 20 years. Only such long-term human body. The trial will ensure that there are no safety problems for 1.3 billion people's rations."

Proposal to focus on transgenic technology

"We can not conduct research on genetically modified staple foods, but it does not mean that we do not carry out research on genetically modified technologies. China should still focus on the research on this technology. It should work harder on species that are not directly consumed by humans, and it can also be used by some people who do not eat. Or occasionally eat a little variety to test, because humans have a certain amount of detoxification ability, if you occasionally eat a little, it is really unfavorable to humans, can not be basically discharged, just like taking medicine and occasionally taking some medicine. Security is in a controllable range, but if you take medicine every day, its side effects will exceed the human ability." Zheng Fengtian said.
