Broad prospects for industrial development

In March 2008, China officially identified 14 vehicle (machine) manufacturing enterprises and auto parts remanufacturing enterprises such as FAW, Dongfeng and Jianghuai, and launched a pilot project for remanufacturing of auto parts. The range of auto parts products for pilot remanufacturing is tentatively scheduled for five categories: engines, gearboxes, generators, starters, and steering gears. According to Zhu Fushou, Dongfeng Hongtai has mastered all the processes of automobile dismantling and remanufacturing. Dongfeng Cummins has also started the remanufacturing of engine parts and components, and now has the capacity to remanufacture 3,000 units per year. Dongfeng also plans to invest 200 million yuan in three years to build a 300-mu auto parts remanufacturing pilot base. After the completion of the pilot base, it is estimated that 50,000 used cars will be recycled and treated each year, 100,000 tons of used materials will be used, and 100,000 sets of auto parts will be manufactured.
