How to identify the pesticide batch number
Pesticides that are legally sold and approved must carry the "three certificates" on their packaging. These include the Pesticide Registration Certificate, issued by the agricultural drug inspection department; the Pesticide Production Permit (with a production license number), issued by the chemical industry authority; and the Pesticide Standard Number (also known as the Quality Certification), issued by the technical supervision bureau. Any pesticide without these three certifications is likely to be considered substandard or even counterfeit, which can pose serious risks to both human health and the environment.
In addition to the three certificates, most domestic pesticides also have a 6- to 8-digit batch number printed on the label. This number provides important information about the product's manufacturing date and shelf life. The first two digits represent the year of production, the next two indicate the month, and the following two show the day. The last two digits usually denote the number of years the pesticide remains effective. For example, if the batch number is 960723-02, it means the pesticide was produced on July 23, 1996, and has a validity period of two years. Some products only display a 6-digit code, with the expiration date clearly marked as “valid for × years,†while others may not specify the expiry date at all, suggesting that the shelf life is less strictly regulated.
It’s essential for users to check these details before purchasing or using any pesticide. Proper identification ensures that the product is safe, legal, and suitable for its intended use.
