How to use odor-resistant floor drain
The bathroom and kitchen often suffer from unpleasant odors, mainly due to the floor drains. Most developers use plastic floor drains, which are not durable and tend to wear out over time. When homeowners renovate their homes, they often replace these plastic drains with more expensive and aesthetically pleasing options like stainless steel or other metal floor drains. However, this replacement can damage the original water-sealed system that helps prevent bad smells from rising up.
Even if the bathroom is equipped with a deodorizing floor drain, if the water in the water trap (the U-shaped part that holds water to block odors) is not regularly refilled, the seal can dry out, leading to foul smells again. This is especially common in kitchens and bathrooms where the floor drain isn’t used frequently.
To avoid this issue, Xiao Bian recommends pouring a glass of water into the floor drain every other week. This simple act helps maintain the water level in the trap, ensuring the odor barrier remains intact.
