New environmentally-friendly dustproof net replaces traditional dense mesh

Yesterday afternoon, the Municipal Construction Bureau organized a site visit and exchange meeting on construction quality, safety, and civilized construction at the second phase of Yulan Garden in Greentown. The event focused on sharing best practices in housing leakage prevention, model house construction, and dust control, drawing attention from all construction units across the city.

A new environmentally-friendly dust-proof net has been introduced, offering improved dust control, noise reduction, and flame resistance. This innovative material is being tested in several projects and is expected to become more widely used in the future.

At the construction site of Building 5 in the second phase of Yulan Garden, engineers are using an alternative "fishnet structure" for exterior wall maintenance. This new type of dust-proof net is made of high-strength engineering plastics and features slots for easy assembly. Unlike traditional mesh, it offers better performance in terms of dust suppression, noise reduction, and durability.

Xiao Chen, an engineering technician, explained that the new net includes noise-reducing elements and can significantly lower construction site noise. “Using this material on a large scale could reduce the loud 'bumps' often heard, making the environment more comfortable for both workers and nearby residents,” he said. The net also includes ventilation holes and card slots for secure installation, improving safety and stability.

Although the new dust-proof net costs about three times more than traditional materials, its high reusability makes it cost-effective over time. “Considering long-term economic and time costs, it’s actually a good investment,” Xiao Chen added. He emphasized that this innovation reflects the shift toward greener construction practices.

This is the first time such a dust-proof net has been used in Wuxi. While currently applied only on parts of Building 5, the project team plans to expand its use in future developments.

In addition to the new net, the city has implemented multiple measures to control dust. At the Yulan Garden site, automatic spray devices have been installed along transport corridors and material storage areas. These systems help suppress dust during vehicle movement and material handling. Green areas have also been created within the construction zone, with nearly 500 square meters of green space planted to improve air quality and reduce dust.

The municipal government launched the "Double Hundred Days" action plan to address dust pollution at construction sites. As part of this initiative, grass seeds were distributed free of charge to construction companies, encouraging them to plant grass on bare soil and increase green coverage. Each site is required to implement customized dust reduction strategies based on local conditions.

The introduction of the new dust-proof net and other green initiatives marks a positive step forward in sustainable and responsible construction practices in Wuxi.
