UG is a powerful 3D CAD/CAE/CAM software widely used in the manufacturing industry, offering advanced parametric feature modeling and assembly techniques that simplify complex 3D design tasks. It provides an intuitive way to translate design concepts into visual models, making the design process more efficient and user-friendly. UG features a comprehensive set of tools for solid modeling, surface modeling, and assembly modeling, allowing designers to create detailed 3D models before moving on to 2D drawings. This not only enhances design flexibility but also supports conceptual design by enabling users to build parts using solids, wireframes, and parameter constraints, and then directly assemble them into larger systems. The software integrates various auxiliary tools such as assembly management, mechanism interference analysis, motion simulation, and finite element analysis, providing a complete solution for product design and digital analysis. By combining fast modeling capabilities with advanced analysis functions, UG helps reduce the time and cost associated with product development. Additionally, it offers customizable features and secondary development tools like UGOPEN, which allow users to build their own libraries, develop dedicated interfaces, and create specialized modules tailored to their needs. This ensures a unified approach between graphics and data, where any change in the model automatically updates the related information, improving overall efficiency and accuracy. In collaboration with UG, we developed PRODIEWIZARD (PDW), an intelligent design software for progressive dies. PDW includes a standard parts library that organizes components by type and provides a management module for easy expansion or modification. The library is based on UG’s standard parts, allowing users to quickly select and adjust parameters to get the desired size. Users can also add new standard parts according to their specific requirements. When building the standard parts catalog, several key considerations must be addressed: ensuring clear display of both graphic and data information, properly opening assembly holes on templates while considering fit relationships, and enabling convenient positioning of standard parts within the mold assembly. These features make PDW a powerful tool for streamlining die design processes and improving productivity.
