Lithium battery storage safety hazard "overcharge" test has exploded
In a report released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on June 27th, titled "The Quality of China's Import and Export Battery in 2012," it was revealed that lithium-ion batteries pose potential safety risks during import and export processes. The report highlights several critical issues identified by inspection and quarantine agencies, including the dangerous phenomenon of "overcharging" in lithium batteries, which led to explosions during testing.
According to the white paper, China's battery trade is extensive, both in exports and imports. In terms of exports, a total of 2,688 batches of batteries were inspected last year, with 83 batches found to be non-compliant, representing 3.09% of all tested samples. For imported batteries, local inspection agencies conducted tests on 207 batches, and 11 of them were found to be substandard, accounting for 5.31% of the total.
The main issues discovered during inspections include false capacity ratings of lithium-ion batteries, safety hazards in lithium batteries used in consumer electronics, and failures in fire impact and heavy impact tests. Notably, the "overcharge" test resulted in explosions, underscoring the serious safety concerns associated with these products.
These findings emphasize the need for stricter quality control measures and enhanced safety protocols in the production and transportation of lithium batteries.
