Lithium battery storage safety hazard "overcharge" test has exploded
In a recent report released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine on June 27th, titled "The Quality of China's Import and Export Batteries in 2012," it was revealed that lithium-ion batteries pose potential safety risks during import and export. The report highlighted several critical issues, including cases where lithium batteries failed safety tests due to overcharging, leading to explosions during testing.
The white paper also emphasized the scale of battery trade in China, both in exports and imports. In terms of exports, a total of 2,688 batches of batteries were inspected last year, with 83 batches found to be non-compliant, representing 3.09% of all inspections. For imported batteries, local inspection agencies tested 207 batches, and 11 of them were found to be substandard, making up 5.31% of the total.
Among the non-compliant items identified, the main concerns included false capacity ratings for lithium-ion batteries, safety hazards in consumer electronics batteries, and failures in fire resistance and impact tests. Notably, the "overcharge" test for lithium batteries resulted in explosions during evaluation. These findings underline the need for stricter quality control measures in both the production and transportation of battery products. (Reporter: Yang Bin)
