Flat paint construction skills

1. The surface must be thoroughly cleaned to ensure it is free from oil, dust, and rust. Appropriate preparation methods include pickling, phosphating, or using white oil and solvent cleaning. It's essential to ensure the surface is completely clean before proceeding with painting. 2. To prevent rust, apply a rust-inhibiting primer before painting. Be cautious: do not use a weak-solvent primer if you're applying a strong-solvent topcoat. Always allow the primer to dry completely before applying the topcoat, as improper timing can cause the topcoat to "bite" into the primer, leading to poor adhesion or damage. In some cases, using a high-quality putty that provides better adhesion and drying properties may be necessary. 3. The ideal viscosity for the paint is typically between 16-22 seconds when measured with a Ford cup. If the paint is too thin, it may sag and fail to cover properly. If it's too thick, it can lead to uneven flow, wrinkling, foaming, or pitting on the surface. Adjusting the viscosity carefully is crucial for achieving a smooth finish. 4. Maintain an air pressure of 0.5–0.8 MPa during spraying to ensure proper atomization. Keep the spray gun at a distance of 25–30 cm from the surface to achieve even coverage without overspray or missed spots. 5. When spraying, apply multiple light coats rather than one heavy layer. Follow a systematic approach: start by spraying the edges and then move to the main visible areas. Begin with the inner parts and then work outward. If the final coat is too thin, there may not be enough film-forming material to create a smooth, even finish, resulting in a rough texture and loss of gloss. 6. For baked paints, follow the recommended temperature and time guidelines. Avoid heating too quickly or at excessively high temperatures, as this can cause fading or discoloration. Ensure the oven temperature is uniform and the thermometer is accurate. These factors are often the primary causes of paint quality issues reported by customers. By following these steps carefully, you can significantly improve the durability, appearance, and overall quality of the painted surface. Always pay attention to details, as small mistakes during the process can lead to major problems later on.
