- During operation, the printing roller must be tightly engaged to transfer ink efficiently. If not cleaned properly, the roller may become rough and unsuitable for use. Always clean and store the roller properly during downtime.
- In offset printing, excessive water and ink can cause emulsification, leading to a hydrophilic layer on the roller surface. This can result in deinking. To address this, remove the emulsion, wash the roller with gasoline, and use a mixture of 5% sodium hydroxide and pumice powder. Metal or hard rollers should also be treated accordingly. Avoid over-sanding, as it may damage the rubber. Controlling the pH balance of water and maintaining proper ink-to-water ratio is key.
- Long-term use and exposure to chemicals can cause aging and deterioration of the rubber, leading to loss of elasticity. Such rollers should not be reused, as this can affect print quality and ink distribution.
- Always have spare ink rollers available to avoid production delays. Store them in the same environment as blankets, keeping them straight and free from damage. Avoid placing heavy objects on them to prevent deformation.
- Do not store rubber rollers near large motors or generators, as they emit ozone, which can accelerate aging and cracking.
- In cold weather, ink may not distribute evenly. Adding a suitable additive to the ink and using an infrared heater to warm the roller can help prevent oxidation and maintain performance.
